A special posting here for a book ,really worthless for its money , coming from the second part from my order received yesterday exactly 7 days after its dispatch . This book is printed by Hephaestus editions (???) in a rather strange paper format 20x26 cm The company seems as a printing service  upon request of the book . This is possibly the reason it takes about 5 days to dispatch.

This book is nothing more than a simple printing of all pages linked from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Malaysian_rock_music_groups
slightly reformatted with some crippled material (eg minus links as found in several webpages

Look here at the photo from the entry of Pop Shuvit

Really , I could expect much more than this very easy to print book.
And for example for the above book I fond the entry of candy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_%28Malaysian_band%29
which is one of my favorite groups. The entry in the book is just 3.5 pages, without the links . Just opening all links one page was dead , and with slightly more googling, I found an interesting interview from newspaper. The printed result was abt 13 pages. This is what i could expect .

I really produce much more complex printouts  every day from my personal news clipping (called aggregation) and for no money for anyone interested (I mean for my work mates) :
-Collecting more than 35 articles each day from Google reader or Netvibes about last developments in tech and IP/net from my RSS subscriptions either copying in series or in parallel (whatever can this mean to you, please let me know what d’you think) into Word.
- Using a  Word macro for processing the text and manually the pictures into this format : arial narrow 11, 0.85 line spacing, 6picas before paragraph , double margin aligned, replacing soft paragraphs with hard, widening printable area , two column formatting
- And then printing in our office’s photocopier ! (using the 4:1 page ie 4 pages into one sheet with draft printing )

I also have another example . several weeks ago , i  collected more than 200 articles from the  net (15 or more goooogle pages of results) regarding  the Malaysian culture and traditions, resulting to abt 300 pages. How much do you estimate for this prionting to cost (just for the research and circa the 40-45 mins required to collect and  paste?)
I am strongly  thinking to return it back. Your comment?

3/5  just for the  information provided

It sound's like a fairly poor effort for the price being charged, not good value for money so it seems! Are you going to return it for a refund?

Ha!!!
Ijust found this while googling:

Hephaestus Books: A Different Kind of Ripoff

Jerry Pournelle and C. J. Cherryh have been among the first to report on the nefarious activities of Hephaestus Books, which seems to be publishing omnibus editions of hundred or thousands of books which they haven’t bothered to obtain the rights for. I say “seems,” because a closer look shows that Hephaestus Books does seen to be ripping people off, but it’s the readers and buyers rather than the authors.

Since Jerry helped sound the alarm, let’s take this collection, titled Novels By Jerry Pournelle, including: The Legacy Of Heorot, The Mote In God’s Eye, The Gripping Hand, Footfall, Inferno (novel), Fallen Angels … Starswarm, Higher Education over at Amazon as an example. The text description reads:

Hephaestus Books represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Hephaestus Books continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge. This particular book is a collaboration focused on Novels by Jerry Pournelle.

The fact that the book length is a mere 82 pages should confirm that all the novels listed in the title are not in fact present.

So: They’re content scrapers, grabbing anything they can grab off the Internet (it looks like most of their content is scrapped off Wikipedia) and slapping it between two covers as a print-on-demand (POD) book. This is bad and dubiously legal practice, but their primary sin seems to be false advertising, since their “book” titles deceptively suggest that you’re buying an omnibus edition of fiction rather than a collection of stuff you can read for free on the Internet.

Personally, if I were in charge of Amazon or Barnes & Noble, I’d pull all the Hephaestus Books titles due to their dishonest tactics and customer dissatisfaction anyway. (I don’t think even my insane Jack Vance collector friends will be picking up this.) But from my cursory glance, it’s readers, not authors, who are the ones being ripped off.
